Small WWII U.S. Marine Corps Poster Warning about Souvenirs
$75.00
The small poster depicts a U.S Marine sitting next to his pack and helmet (with frog skin camouflage cover) looking at a Japanese document. The poster indicates that Marines who simply place souvenirs in their sea bag will suffer a court martial. The poster instructs the Marines to instead take their souvenirs to the intelligence section (“BN 2”) where a Marine is depicted with a Japanese document and a sword which has a “Passed by Censor” tag. Approximately 8 by 10 inches and produced with a photographic process similar to V-Mail. The small poster warned Marines that placing souvenirs into their sea bags without having them cleared by an intelligence section censor could result in severe penalties. The poster has a faint “Restricted” stamp on the upper corner together with a handwritten notation which appears to be “Ind. Co.”. There are two small holes near the upper edge, presumably from when the poster was tacked up for display in a Marine unit in the Pacific. The poster was printed on a heavier, photographic type paper, and it has five horizontal creases and the reverse side has spots.
