A Pair of Named West Point Class of 1940 Steins for a CBI Theater Silver Star Recipient and His Wife
$325.00
The pottery half liter steins each bear the crest of the United States Military Academy at West Point, with the date of 1940. The reverse sides of the steins bear the declaration of “Mud in Your Eye”. Both steins are marked on the base by the Nassau China Company of Trenton, New Jersey. One of the steins is named to “Hazy” while the other is named to “Becky”. The 1940 “Howitzer” West Point yearbook identifies “Hazy” as the academy nickname of Charles Bellows Hazeltine, Jr. After graduating in 1940, Hazeltine was a career army officer and, during the Second World War, he served in Burma with the 123rd Cavalry Regiment, where he was the recipient of the Silver Star and the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster. The accompanying stein was named to his wife “Becky”.
