Id’d Sterling Silver OSS Detachment 101 “Burma Campaign” Kachin Award Bar

Originally obtained from the family of Russell R. Gore, US Army serial number 15055058. The sterling silver bar measures approximately 2 7/8 inches wide. The reverse bears a long pin with a drop in safety catch. According to expert Les Hughes, author of the exceptionally informative website on Special Forces insignia (insigne.org), the “101 Burma Campaign” bars were created as awards to be presented as recognition for acts of valor to the native Burmese Kachin tribesmen who aided and who fought with Detachment 101 of the Office of Strategic Services in Burma. The bar has a dark, untouched patina and it is in excellent condition.
