Signed Army Officer Shin Gunto Sword in Complete Leather Combat Cover

The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 38 inches with a blade length of approximately 25  inches. The blade has some light scratches and smudges but it is generally quite bright and without nicks, chips, or rust, and exhibiting a subtle temper line. The tang is signed by Mishina Yoshiaki. The tsuba is almost completely solid with gilt finish and cherry blossom motif. The tsuba has an opening on one side through which a leather strap extends with a snap to secure the sword to the leather scabbard cover. The grip is covered in fine ray skin, with a wrap in the traditional fashion in brown silk tape. Beneath the wrap on each side are the standard military menuki with three cherry blossoms. A very fine officer’s sword tassel is tied to the pommel ring. The wood scabbard is enclosed within a leather combat cover, and the leather hood for the grip remains with the sword. Overall the sword is in excellent condition.
