First Battalion New Jersey Engineers Unit Flag 50 Inches by 69 Inches

$750.00

The flag is double sided, heavily embroidered on red silk. The flag measures approximately 50 inches by 68 inches, exclusive of the fringe.  The flag shows some separations to the silk field, as well as stains and spots. A section of the red silk field was repaired on each side through the use of two replacement sections on the upper corners of the fly end of the flag. These two replacement sections are a slightly darker shade of red from the main field. The 1st Battalion of the New Jersey Engineers was combined with the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th New Jersey Infantry Regiments to form the 104th Engineer Regiment in October of 1917. The regiment served in France in World War I as a component of the 29th Infantry Division. On 11 May 1919, the regiment returned from France to Camp Dix, New Jersey, where it was mustered out of Federal service. With the reorganization of the National Guard after World War I, the unit was again designated as the 1st Battalion Engineers, New Jersey National Guard, on 11 July 1921.
