WWII U.S. Army Airborne Anti Aircraft Officer’s 1942 British Slouch Hat
The hat is the brown wool British Army issue bush / slouch hat, manufacturer marked on the sweatband “Fallsworth Hats Ltd” and dated 1942. The sweatband bears the broad arrow issue mark and the size of “7”. The bush hat was customized by an American officer of an airborne anti aircraft unit with the placement of shoulder sleeve insignia on the upturned brim and the placement of the gold and black officer cap cord from the campaign hat around the crown. The front of the crown has a small hole and an interior circular indentation where there was, at one time, a screw back distinctive insignia. The hat was likely worn by an officer of the 152nd Anti Aircraft Machine Gun Battalion (Airborne). The hat shows wear and age but remains in very good condition and it is complete with its original pleated cloth band around the crown and the chin cord. There are a few stitches missing from the center side of the sweatband that do not affect the integrity of the sweatband.
