WWII Stars & Stripes: VE Day Surrender Ceremony
The complete London edition (4 pages) of The Stars and Stripes Army newspaper of May 9, 1945, with articles and photographs of the surrender ceremony at Rheims, France (since no officer of the Red Army was present at the ceremony, Stalin would insist on a second ceremony. In fact, the front page of this issue carries a report that, up to the actual ceremony, the Germans tried to surrender only to the United States and Great Britain). The paper contains multiple articles on the end of the war in Europe as well as the continuing war in the Pacific. The paper shows typical age toning and the faint horizontal fold that was created upon publication, with minor edge chips to the paper. The paper remains complete and quite readable.
