WWII Japanese Army Officer Shin Gunto Sword Made by Ishido Teruhide
The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 39 inches, with a blade length of approximately 26 inches. The blade is out of polish with areas of mossing, oxidation, and some spots and surface scratches. The blade edge exhibits several nicks, with the deepest being less than 1mm. The tang is signed “Ishido Teruhide Saku”, or “Ishido Teruhide made this”. The grip is ray skin that is wrapped in the traditional fashion in brown fabric that has darkened from handling in the field. Beneath the wrapping on both sides are standard military menuki of three cherry blossoms. The tsuba is solid brass with relief cherry blossoms. The scabbard shows wear and loss of much of the surface paint.
