WWII Cased Privately Engraved Purple Heart “George F. Robinson / 35 592 910 / T/Sgt.”
The decoration is a World War II slot brooch Purple Heart contained within its black leather titled case. The decoration was privately machine engraved in very small lettering on three lines: “George F. Robinson / 35 592 910 / T/Sgt.” The decoration is accompanied by a “Statement of Service” from the National Personnel Records Center. Dated January, 1991, the document identifies Robinson as having served in the Army from November 27, 1942, to March 15, 1946. The document further states that Robinson was inducted at Akron, Ohio, and that he was discharged at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, with no other information (such as units, decorations, and military specialty) being unavailable, indicating that Robinson’s service file was one of the many destroyed by a fire at the archives in 1973.
