WWI YMCA Entertainer Document and Insignia Group


A group of documents and insignia belonging to Mabelle Adams Joseph who served in France as an entertainer for the YMCA. The group consists of Miss Joseph’s large identification document (9 3/4 by 6 inches) from the National War Work Council of the YMCA, which includes her signed photograph on the document; a charm bracelet comprised of alternating Croix de Guerre decorations and small medallions with a different French city crest on each; a small booklet, “Uncle Sam’s Famous National Songs” and a YMCA booklet, “France: Our Ally”; enameled pin back YMCA insignia, 1 inch by 1 inch in size; Embroidered YMCA insignia, 2 1/4 by 1 1/2 inches; And a propaganda leaflet, in French on one side and in German on the other, titled “The German People Offer Peace”. A handwritten notation along the edge of the leaflet states “Dropped from German plane while we were playing in open air to about 5,000 men at Cheueton Du, France.”
