WWI British Monogrammed Sterling Silver Cigarette Case with German “Captured” Engraving
The sterling silver cigarette case is approximately 2-1/4 inches by 3-1/4 inches, compatible with filterless cigarettes. The front of the case is monogrammed with what appear to be the letters “BLJ”. The interior of the case bears multiple British silver hallmarks, including the mark of sterling silver, the Chester Assay Office, and the maker mark of the silver firm of James dixon and Sons. The interior is also engraved in German “Gefunden Im Gefangenen Englischer Graben” (“Found in the Captured English Trench Belgium 1915”. The case shows typical indentations and marks from carrying, and it exhibits uncleaned patina.
