U.S. Marine’s WWI Second Division “The Indian” Magazine Book with the Owner’s Marine Corps Medal Award Document
$275.00
Hardcover, with green cloth covers. Approximately 9 inches by 11 inches. The volume contains copies of “The Indian” publication of the Second Division, from April 15, 1919, (Volume I, Number 1) to July 8, 1919 (Volume I, Number 13), with one additional final issue, with these apparently being the complete series of “The Indian”, which were then bound for soldiers of the Division. This copy has a handwritten notation on the flyleaf which indicates that it was the property of Elias V. Ault, who served in World War I with the 20th Company of the 3rd Battalion, 5th Regiment, U.S. Marine Corps, in the Second Division. Also within the book is a photograph, approximately 4-3/4 inches by 6-5/8 inches, the photograph showing a formation of troops, presumably U.S. Marines. Also in the book are a program of the July 4th celebration of the Second Division in 1919, as well as the single page of the 1919 General Orders Number 38-A from the General Headquarters of the American Expeditionary Force, this being General Pershing’s statement of thanks to the troops, and with a handwritten notation at the bottom that this copy was furnished to Private Elias V. Ault. Finally, the book contains the award document for the U.S. Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal to Private Ault in 1920. Overall the book and the documents are in very good condition.
