Posthumous Named and Cased P-47 Fighter Pilot Purple Heart

The Purple Heart is a slot brooch suspension and it is named to “Cecil E. Greer”, who was killed in action on November 18, 1944, while flying a mission as a P-47 fighter pilot with the 387th Fighter Squadron of the 365th Fighter Group. It appears that the officially named Purple Heart was modified by the addition of Greer’s date of death. The decoration shows some wear to the gilt finish, and the ribbon exhibits some wear and staining. The medal is contained within its titled black leather case together with the ribbon bar and enamel lapel badge. The medal is accompanied by some research. Overall excellent condition.
