Posthumous Named and Cased 43rd Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron Purple Heart

The Purple Heart is a slot brooch suspension and it is named to “John E. Pomponio”, who was killed in action on October 27, 1944, while serving in Europe with the 43rd Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron. The medal shows wear to the gilt finish, and the stitching on the rear brooch has become lost at the rear bottom edges of the brooch. The medal is contained within its titled black leather case together with the ribbon bar and enamel lapel badge. The case shows some spots and scuffing. The medal is accompanied by some research. Overall good condition.
