Painted Wooden Figure of WWI Fighter Ace Eddie Rickenbacker
An older painted figure of World War I ace Captain Eddie Rickenbacker. The figure is wood, approximately 20 1/2 inches tall, 6 1/2 inches wide, and 1/4 of an inch thick. There is an age crack to the wood in one foot but it is not separated and the entire piece is complete and intact. The paint shows some minor scuffs and signs of wear but overall the piece is in very good condition and makes an excellent appearance. On the back of the piece there is a notation written in pencil “Eddie Rickenbacker as Supt. of West Point”, which is interesting since Rickenbacker never held that position. Rickenbacker, a former race car driver, became the highest scoring American Ace of the First World War with 26 aerial victories, and he was decorated with seven Distinguished Service Crosses and the Medal of Honor.
