Named WWI 2nd Division Ammunition Train Painted M17 Combat Helmet and Gas Mask Bag
The insignia of the 2nd Division Ammunition Train (Indian Head and Star against a dark green, projectile-shaped, background) was painted on the soldier’s M17 helmet and on his gas mask bag. The name “Rice” is written below the insignia on the bag. The paint to the helmet shows some wear. The helmet liner is present but the chin strap is gone. The gas mask bag contains the mask, hose and canister along with the instruction card, and the full shoulder strap is attached. The top of the bag bears the size stamp of “4 Wide”.
