Named U.S. Navy Spanish American War Boxed Medals Group

$675.00

The group is comprised of the medals of Oliver Bennett. The group includes the following items:

– U.S. Navy Spanish Campaign Medal. The medal has a split brooch suspension. The medal itself is named on the edge “Oliver Bennett” and it is numbered “5718”. The medal is contained within the titled cardboard Bailey, Banks & Biddle box, with the base of the box bearing a label with the medal number of “5718”. The medal is accompanied by the ribbon bar. The box shows age and the lid has split corners.

– United Spanish War Veterans Member Badge, being the large example and bearingĀ  number “44211” on the reverse of the suspension. The medal is within its box, with the lid bearing the medal number. The box shows age and staining.

– A pin back ribbon bar with the ribbons for the Spanish Campaign Medal and the West Indies Campaign Medal (“the Sampson Medal”).

– A hand made brass medal with a suspension bar that is engraved “O. Bennett”. The cut out brass medal has an upper section which is engraved “N.R.V.A.” and “Chicago” on an anchor (it is possible that at some point Oliver Bennett served on board the cruiser USS Chicago and that this medal was made on board the ship, but the origin and actual reason for the medal is unknown). The medal shows tarnish and patina.

– A smaller member badge for the United Spanish War Veterans.

The boxes show age, and the medals show expected signs of age as well, but overall the items in the group are in very good condition.
