Large WWII British Lock from the Troopship HMS Mauretania

$150.00

The brass lock measures approximately 4 inches long. It is manufacturer marked by the firm of Hubb in London. Tied to the lock is a tag identifying it as having come from the troopship “HMS Mauretania” in 1943. The lock has uncleaned patina and verdigris. The “Mauretania” to which the tag refers was a Cunard liner launched in 1939. It was actually designated “RMS” for “Royal Mail Steamer” until it was converted to a troopship and was designated “HMT” (for “His Majety’s Troopship”) soon after the beginning of the war.
