The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 36-1/4 inches, with a blade length of approximately 24-1/2 inches. The blade is generally very bright, while showing a few almost imperceptible spots of speckling or minor inclusions. The blade has a visible temper line and it is without chips, nicks, or active rust. The sword tang is unsigned and it has two holes for the mounting of the grip. The ray skin grip is wrapped in the traditional style with brown fabric, which shows darkening from handling. Affixed to the grip on top of the wrapping are decorative menuki on each side. The menuki are in the form of  kagami-mochi, a sweet rice cake that is made during the new year (Kagami-mochi translates as “mirror rice cake“). The iron tsuba guard is a decorative pierced style. The lacquered wood scabbard of the sword is in excellent condition, with a fabric wrapping around the upper section. Overall the sword is in excellent condition.
