Circa 1740 European Military Hanger
A style of military sword that was popular beginning in the 1740’s and which was used through the American Revolution. The blade is approximately 27 inches long, with the sword having an overall length of 33 inches. The blade is singled edged with a narrow fuller. The pommel, guard, and knuckle bow are brass. The guard is heart shaped with a dished configuration and having raised edges, quillion is broken off. The grip is wood – looks to be oak, and is free of cracks or chips. The blade has an overall gray appearance with areas of light pitting. The blade itself is marked with a crown over a letter. Excellent condition for a sword that is now over 250 years old.
