1968 Dated Jungle Jacket of U.S. Air Force Major General Walter T. Galligan

The jungle jacket is tagged as a size “Large Regular” and it bears an interior label with a defense Supply Agency numerical designation which includes the date of 1968. The concealed button jacket is very clean, without stains or damage. The front of the jacket bears a patch for the United States Air Force Academy, which dates its use to early 1971, when Major Gneral Galligan was appointed to serve as the Commandant of Cadets at the academy. The jacket also has a cloth Command Pilot wing. Galligan himself was a 1945 graduate of West Point; He flew cargo transports during the Berlin Airlift and, in August of 1969, he served in the Republic of Vietnam as commander of the 35th Tactical Fighter Wing at Phan Rang Air Base. Galligan’s military decorations and awards include the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award Ribbon with “V” device, Combat Readiness Medal, the medal for the Occupation of Germany with the Berlin Airlift device, and the Medal for Humane Action. He was awarded by the Republic of Vietnam, the Air Force Distinguished Service Order, First Class, and the Military Cross of Gallantry with palm.
