On Hold

Rectangular brass buckle measuring 2-1/8" X 2-1/4", worn by members of the Haitian Constabulary (officially designated as the "Gendarmerie"), including U.S. Marines serving with the Constabulary. The Constabulary was formed by the American military in Haiti in 1915, and the first Commandant of the Haitian Constabulary was General Smedley Butler, who was twice the recipient of the Medal of Honor while serving with the United States Marine Corps. The buckle is manufacturer marked on the reverse by a Paris maker. The buckles is toned with age and uncleaned patina and has some old verdigris on the front and back surfaces.
