French 19th Grenadier Shako Plate
A portion of the copper shako plate for a French grenadier. The upper portion of the thin gilt helmet plate has been cut away, likely done after the final fall of Emperor Napoleon, with the imperial eagle and crown being removed and the shako plate seeing service until the French Republic began to use a helmet plate with the rooster in place of the eagle. There is wear to the obverse gilt finish and several small holes on the edges.
