WWII Model 1883 Japanese Navy Officer Dress Sword
A fine example of a World War II period Model 1883 sword for an officer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 32 inches, with a blade length of approximately 26 inches. The plated blade is quite bright overall. The pommel, back strap, guard, and scabbard fittings are gilded brass, with much of the gilt finish apparently remaining. The grip is ray skin and it is without cracks or chips. The shark skin scabbard is supple and in excellent condition. The black fabric officer's sword knot remains tied around the grip and guard.
