German Army Officer Lion Head Sword by Pack & Son
The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 40 inches, with a blade length of 33 1/2 inches. The blade is mirror bright, with some relatively minor spots and scratches, but no chips, nicks, or rust. The ricasso bears the manufacturer mark of the firm of E. Pack & Son. The guard has an open wing eagle. The pommel is a lion head with red glass eyes. The grip is a metal form painted black. The grip shows a number of chips to the black paint. It is triple wrapped with brass wire. The knuckle guard is adorned with oak leaves in relief and the back strap bears a decorative relief design. The sword was polished at some point and polish residue remains in the crevices of the grip and areas of the gilt fittings. The black scabbard paint shows some signs of age and minor scratches but it is essentially complete and intact.
