German Army Officer Lion Head Sword by Clemens & Jung
This long sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 41 inches, with a blade length of 34 1/2 inches. The blade is generally bright, although there is surface dirt and the blade would likely respond well to a careful cleaning. The blade has some relatively minor spots and scratches, and some traces of speckling to the surfaces, but the blade has no chips, nicks, or rust. The ricasso bears the manufacturer mark of the firm of Clemens & Jung. The guard has an open wing eagle and the pommel is a lion head. The grip is black celluloid over wood. It is triple wrapped with brass wire and the grip is without cracks or chips. The knuckle guard and back strap are both adorned with a decorative motif in relief. The sword fittings were all polished at some point, and there is polish residue on the fittings and within the grip wire. The black scabbard paint shows age but it is essentially intact.
