DESCRIPTION

A multi piece Air Force unit guidon of the 89th Airlift Wing, based at Andrews Air Force base in Washington, D.C. The government contractor tag inside of the sleeve is dated in 1989, shortly before the Gulf War and Operation Desert Storm, during which the Wing carried supplies and personnel to the Middle East and transported American prisoners of war back to the United States after the war had ended. The unit maintains an Air Expeditionary Force, a combat-ready force of more than 1,100 personnel. The 89th Airlift Wing is also responsible for operations involving transportation of the most senior members of the government, and the aircraft which are a part of the wing's planes include Air Force One, the presidential 747. The guidon has some soiling from use but it is in overall excellent condition. It is about 19 inches wide by 30 inches long and the sleeve retains the leather attachment tabs at both ends.
