1943 Dated M1910 Ethocel Plastic Canteen
For a limited period of time in 1943 the government produced the Model 1910 canteen in the relatively new material of plastic in an effort to conserve strategically important materials such as aluminum. Specifically, the plastic material was known as "Ethocel", an amber plastic, and the producers of the canteen included the Dow Chemical company and the Mack Molding Company. Molded into the bottom of this example is "G.I.", "U.S.", and "1943". The black Bakelite cap is remains attached by a connecting chain, with the chain showing rust. The canteen is in overall very good condition.
