A beautiful example of the Model 1883 Imperial Japanese Navy officer's sword. The blade is approximately 26 inches long with the sword having an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 33 inches. The blade is generally quite bright. It shows typical scratches and spots but it is free of chips, nicks or active rust. The decorated sword guard is the seven leaf version and the gilt finish on the guard and the knuckle bow is almost completely intact. The decorated back strap and the scabbard fittings are silver in color. The grip is white ray skin wrapped with gilt brass wire. The scabbard is shark skin and has the split in the skin on one side that is common with the shark skin scabbards, but the scabbard is complete and intact and in overall very good condition. Wrapped around the knuckle guard is the original officer sword knot, the knot itself being silver and red with the cord being toned gold bullion. In its entirety the sword is in excellent condition and makes a superb appearance.
