The sword has an overall length in the scabbard of approximately 37 inches. The leather wrapped grip shows minor scuffing, but remains tightly wrapped with brass wire. The underside of the clam shell guard appears to have had a name scratched into the surface, though it is not easily read. The blade is etched on both sides with patriotic motifs as well as motifs appropriate for the GAR. The blade has some typical spots but overall it is quite bright. The ricasso bears the mark of Patch & Fellows of Boston. The nickel scabbard has old patina and some loss of finish on the lower section of one side and the brass drag has come loose on one side and slightly bent. Overall the sword is in very good condition.
