WWI "Send for a Priest" Dog Tag and Photograph
The issued World War I dog tag of Private Maurice J. Leonard, together with a portrait photograph of Leonard as a Corporal in full uniform. At the time that he was issued his dog tag Leonard obviously gave thought to the moment when he would be entering the trenches. Recognizing the possibility that he might be badly wounded and unable to communicate, Leonard had the back of his dog tag impressed with the words "Send for a Priest". Both the dog tag and the photo have been nicely matted and framed, with glass on both sides so that each side of the dog tag can be viewed. A poignant and compelling memento of a soldier's anticipation of combat in The Great War.
