A group of newspaper clippings relating to Private First Class Michael White of Norristown, Pennsylvania, together with a photograph, a piece of 1944 V-Mail, and an unnamed Purple Heart. White was killed in action in the Pacific on November 16, 1944, while serving as an infantryman in the 31st Division. The photograph is 3 1/2 by 5 inches and identified on the back. The V-Mail was sent by White to his family prior to Christmas of 1944, writing them the message of "Hoping to be with you all [at] Christmas of '45". White must have been killed in action not long after sending his family this message. The newspaper articles include one on the 31st Division, and clippings regarding the dedication of a memorial plaque for White in a local fire company hall. The Purple Heart is a WWII period example with a slot brooch and a plastic center. It is not named. Private First Class White is buried in the Manila American Military Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.
