WWII Japanese Police Overcoat
The black wool topcoat of a World War II Japanese police officer. The coat is long and was designed for wear during mounted service on horseback. The overcoat is double breasted with brass police buttons. The back is belted, and the back also has a long vertical opening that would permit the coat to be buttoned around each of the wearer's legs for sitting on horseback. The rear opening could be closed in the back for standard wear with four black plastic buttons, of which three are presently missing. The two buttons that would have been used to close the front of the coat around the wearer's legs are also missing. The coat shows signs of use, particularly on the bottom hem, but overall it is in very good service used condition.
