WWII Cased & Named WIA Purple Heart
Cased Purple Heart decoration on a slot brooch suspension, officially hand engraved "Charles N. Thomas" on two lines. There were no American service personnel with that name killed in action during World War II. As such, the decoration was likely awarded to a soldier who was wounded and sent back to the United States, or it was sent to an American prisoner of war following his release and return to the United States. It is also possible that it was a World War II period award to a soldier who had been wounded during World War I but who did not request his Purple Heart until the period of the Second World War. The exterior and the interior of the case both show substantial wear. The finish of the decoration also shows signs of age and some wear.
