Japanese Type 19 Company Grade Officer Sword
click for an even bigger image

A good example of a Type 19 officer's sword. The plated blade is quite bright, approximately 29 inches long, with some small spots where the plating has lifted at the tip. The pierced guard is tarnished brass, and there appears to be some original gilt remaining on the guard, particularly underneath the basket. The grip is leather over wood, triple wrapped with wire. There is verdigris within the brass designs, possibly from old polish. The nickel scabbard has uniform speckling to the surface and a small indentation on the lower section of one side, but the plating appears to be largely intact beneath surface grime and the scabbard would likely respond very well to a careful cleaning to remove the surface dirt.
