Edo Period Samurai Jingasa Wooden Hat

A wooden Jingasa Samurai war hat of the Edo period. The hat is lacquered wood, approximately 16 3/4 inches in diameter. The top is a textured surface, matte blue, with a gilt Mon, or family crest, in raised relief. The underside is finished in red lacquer, with a replaced square fabric covered central pad to cushion the jingasa on the head of the wearer. Attached to the pad are replaced white fabric ties to secure the hat. Excellent condition.
