WWII Marine Corps/Navy Venereal Disease Treatment Box
click for an even bigger image

The steel U.S. Navy Medical Department box which during World War II contained the instruments needed to treat venereal disease among sailors or U.S. Marines. The box is empty, but the interior contains diagrams and identifications for all of the instruments, such as a syringe; silver catheter; aspirating needle; forceps-meatus; forceps-dressing; scissors; scalpel; hypo needles; aspirating needle; and other implements. All in all it looks like the treatment would have been very unpleasant! The box is 8 1/2 inches long by 4 inches wide by 1 inch deep. The box shows signs of use (not surprisingly) but it is in overall very good condition.
