German Eagle Pommel / Glass Eyes Dress Bayonet
A short German dress bayonet with an overall length in the scabbard of 13 1/2 inches and a blade length of 7 3/4 inches. The ricasso is marked "Ges. Gesch" ("The German equivalent of "Patent Pending"). The blade is quite bright, with some minor "pepper spots" primarily on one side above the "Ges. Gesch." designation. The leather washer is in place on the ricasso. The grips plates are black checkered bakelite secured by two domed rivets. The pommel is an eagle head with two red glass eyes. The pommel has a black finish that shows some wear. The scabbard is black and the scabbard paint is approximately 80% intact. The bayonet is contained within a brown leather frog that has a backing of field gray wool. The frog shows wear and use but is in very good condition.
