Large Signed Photograph of AEF Chemical Warfare Chief
A large, singed, portrait photograph of Brigadier General Amos Fries, a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1898. Fries served in the Army Corps of Engineers and his service included combat in the Philippines under then Captain John J. Pershing. When Fries arrived in Europe as a part of the American Expeditionary Force in World War I, he was selected by Pershing to serve as the Commander of the new "Gas Service Section" of the AEF, which later became the "Chemical Warfare Service". The photograph is on a heavy card stock, and it has an overall size of approximately 9 1/2 by 13 1/4 inches. It is in very good condition.
