WWI 1917 Trench Knife by L.F. & C.
click for an even bigger image

A very fine example of the Model 1917 Trench Knife manufactured by the firm of Landers, Fray & Clark. The triangular blade has approximately 95% of the original blued finish intact. The ricasso is marked "U.S.", dated 1917, and manufacturer marked "L.F. & C.". The "knuckle duster" hand guard shows the usual wear to the finish and some typical small spots of light surface rust. The wood grip has some standard darkening from age but the grip is without cracks or chips. The green leather scabbard shows the expected signs of carrying wear, but the finish remains largely intact and the scabbard is complete and sound, marked "Jewel 1918". Both the upper and lower fittings bear the "M.S." manufacturer mark and the top of the scabbard throat fitting is also marked "HE". Overall the piece is an excellent example of the Model 1917 fighting knife.
