Airborne Army Paratrooper Luminous Invasion Disk
Approximately 1 1/2 inch in diameter. The disk contains radium which would glow in the dark. The disks were to be worn by the Normandy paratroopers to make themselves identifiable to each other in the darkness. This example has a clip on the reverse as well as holes in the blued steel container so that the disk could be either clipped to the helmet net or affixed to the helmet with string. The reverse is marked "Poison Inside". The back has a bit of rust, as typically found on this style of disk, but the luminous disk itself is intact and unbroken, as is the clip and the disk as a whole. Very good condition.
