WWII Named AAF Enlisted "Crusher" Cap

This cap was obviously a private purchase cap for an enlisted man or non commissioned officer. Instead of the usual "furry" wool top, this cap has an officer quality gabardine top that is removable, so a khaki top could be used as well. The name of "Speddon" is written under the visor. The cap has the thicker leather visor, but the cap was undoubtedly worn by Speddon as a member of the Army Air Forces, for the cap stiffener was removed from the crown as was the practice in the Army Air force. The cap then took on the distinctive "50 Mission Crush" over the time that it was worn. The cap is in wonderful condition. Aside from the typical darkening of the celluloid sweat shield on the inside, the cap has no issues with stains or moth damage. A World War II cap that is in excellent used condition and which displays with tremendous character.
