1953 Refugee Relief Act Souvenir Stein
click for an even bigger image

A German stein named to "J. Donald Wilson", who was undoubtedly involved in the post-World War II efforts to assist European refugees. The stein displays a map of Germany (with communist East Germany in red) flanked by images of a refugee and a figure whose role isn't entirely clear but he appears to be very well dressed. There is also a roster of names od individuals, including Wilson's, on the sides of the stein. These were presumably the individuals in the office that commissioned the stein as a memento. The stein has a naked lady lithopane on the base and an open winged eagle on the lid as a finial. There is surface dirt and dust on the stein that will almost certainly come off rather easily with a careful washing.
