M1898/05 Unit Marked Saw Back Butcher Blade Bayonet
A Model 98/05 saw back butcher blade bayonet, blade is marked by Deutsche Maschinenfabrik AG of Duisburg on the ricasso, dated 1916 on the spine. The blade is clean and relatively bright with the typical gray spots from age. The wood grips have the minor indentations from use and there is a small chip to one of the raised ridges on the obverse. The spine of the grip has the narrow sheet of steel that was put in place as a flash guard in 1915. The pommel and guard exhibit spots of light surface rust. The finish on the scabbard is mostly smooth and grey with scattered dark staining and exhibits a few small shallow dents. The leather frog is in place. It is quite dry but it is intact. The crossguard of the bayonet is unit marked.
