WWII First Production M4 Imperial Knife Bayonet
click for an even bigger image

An M4 knife bayonet by the Imperial Knife Company of Providence, Rhode Island. The bayonet has the leather grip identifying it as a part of the first production. The pommel bears the mark of the Ordnance Corps, as well as the "SP" mark of the Standard Products Company of Ohio, which produced the pommel. The pommel is secured with a "star burst" stake characteristic of World War II production. The scabbard is an early production M8 model which did not have a metal tip. The Parkerized blade is in very good condition, with evidence of sharpening of the blade subsequent to the original factory sharpening after the Parkerizing process. There is what appears to be a stenciled name on the back of the web frog, and a stenciled number on the back of the scabbard.
