DESCRIPTION

A fine Japanese blade for a gunto sword, contained with the plain wood scabbard known as shirasaya, or resting, mounts. The blade was manufactured from what is usually referred to as "anti-corrosive steel". The markings on one side of the tang date the sword to production in August of 1942 with the statement "A day in August,
Showa 17". The opposite side of the tang states "This Was Forged at the Tenshozan Forge". The Tenshozan Forge produced gunto blades exclusively for the Japanese Imperial Navy. The blade is quite bright and approximately 25 3/4 inches long. It is free of nicks, chips, or active rust.
