WW2 Life Raft Navigation Charts Instruction Silk Sheet
A large (about 12 1/2 by 15 1/2 inches) artificial silk instruction sheet that provides information to persons in a life raft on how to use the cloth survival and navigational current charts that were a part of the survival kits of air crews. Most of the cloth "escape maps" of the Pacific region (which are referred to on this sheet as "handkerchief charts") included extensive printed notations on them regarding ocean currents. This sheet provides instructions on how to use those maps. The sheet is dated in July of 1944 and was prepared by the Air Intelligence Group of the Division of Naval Intelligence in Washington. The sheet has one very small hole near the center and a bit of age toning.
