The Purple Heart planchet is numbered on the rim "38280" and officially hand engraved on the reverse "Hugh J. Ross" on two lines. The medal planchet was produced in the late 1930's as a part of the contract with Bailey, Banks & Biddle. The medal has been re-ribboned using the ribbon and suspension from a World War II period Navy or Marine corps Purple Heart, with a gilt full wrap brooch. Hugh J. Ross served as a PFC in G Co, 58th Infantry Regt, 4th Infantry Division.
