Painted Iron Cross Design Camo M1916 Combat Helmet
A Model 1916 German combat helmet that was painted by a German prisoner of war as a souvenir for an American guard. The helmet was given a coat of medium green paint and then blocks of light green and brown paint were applied, divided by black lines, just as with the regulation German camouflage pattern. On the front of the helmet was painted a large 1914 Iron Cross above the declaration of "Gott Mit Uns!". The helmet lacks the liner and chin strap. An interior manufacturing code is largely obscured by the paint. A very impressive souvenir helmet.
