WWII Black Crackle Finish Cigarette Lighter
click for an even bigger image

The World War II style cigarette lighter, which was constructed from a lower grade of steel in the manufacture of the lighter case (the higher grade steel being needed for the war effort). To prevent rusting, and to create a non-reflective surface for combat conditions, the case was then given a coat of black paint and baked, creating a crackled, matte black surface on the exterior of the lighter. This example has about 95% of the exterior surface intact. The flint striking wheel turns easily. There is no flint in the lighter and the wick is white, indicating that this lighter saw little, if any, use. Excellent condition.
